Sherwood - Single Storey Side Extension

When envisioning a space that blends practicality with professionalism, our recent project—a single-storey side extension tailored for a massage therapist—stands as a perfect example of thoughtful, client-centred design. The client sought an inspiring yet functional space to conduct her massage therapy business, requiring an area that provided ample room for movement, comfort for her clients, and practical amenities to support her workflow. Beyond this, she wanted a well-organised utility room and a stylish, accessible ground-floor shower room.

Crafting a Seamless Exterior and a Functional Interior

From the outset, our goal was to ensure the extension harmonised seamlessly with the existing home. We meticulously matched the bricks and roof tiles, achieving a cohesive exterior that respected the architectural integrity of the original structure. The front of the extension was rendered to complement a portion of the house, blending new and old with sophistication.

Inside, the design was optimised for professional utility. The massage space featured a layout spacious enough to accommodate a massage bed with ample room for movement around it. A dedicated desk area provided the client with the necessary space for laptop work, ensuring the room was as practical as it was calming. The interior was outfitted with a vertical radiator for optimal heat distribution and designer lighting chosen by the client to create an inviting ambience. Durable flooring was selected for easy maintenance and to support accessibility, catering to clients with mobility challenges. We also included a floor-mounted socket for the specialist massage bed, balancing functional design with aesthetic appeal.

Overcoming Challenges with Precision and Persistence

One of the most demanding aspects of this project was the installation of structural steelwork to remove a corner of the building, a crucial step in achieving the room's open layout. Precision was essential; the steel had to align perfectly, and the propping required for the process needed strategic planning. Manoeuvring the steel from the delivery lorry to its final position was no small feat, but with detailed planning and persistence, our team overcame the challenge, ensuring the house remained secure and stable throughout the build.

Enhancing Everyday Utility

The utility room was designed to maximise space and convenience, complete with fitted units and a wall-mounted telescopic drying line. This space was equipped to house both a washer and dryer, meeting the client's functional needs without sacrificing style. The fully tiled ground-floor shower room featured a large walk-in shower tray, enhancing the home's practicality with a sleek, modern touch.

Client Satisfaction

The outcome delighted the client, who appreciated both the look and functionality of the extension. Her positive feedback, shared on Google, reflected her satisfaction with our team's attention to detail and commitment to her vision. This project serves as a testament to our ability to create inspiring spaces that combine aesthetic coherence with practical use—crafted precisely to fit our client's unique needs.
